Life has been staying steadily busy for Lex over here. Unexpected because I thought things would slow down once the fall hit but as with everything in life.. nothing goes as expected.
But I think that’s my favorite part of it.
I can plan and expect what each day, week, and month will be like but things never go according to that plan. I think everyone can relate to that. Sometimes it can bring us all stress and chaos in our minds.
But how boring would life be to live if everything went exactly as you thought they would.
Sure, sometimes the unexpected is heartbreaking, maddening, and makes you wish it went as expected.
But what about the unexpected that makes you glow from happiness. The unexpected that makes you feel alive when you didn’t think you’d feel love again. The unexpected that brings your favorite memories.
That’s the unexpected we all have to appreciate a little more. It’s far too easy to let life get away from you without reflecting on all those little moments.
I always remind my friends to go with the flow of life and let it happen. I think that’s where the good unexpected aspect comes in. Low expectations leaves so much room for so much unplanned happiness. I’m not sitting here saying you should expect to be miserable and then if you find happiness then you’re lucky. I’m saying you should always be happy and content with where you are and not always plan and look forward to the next big step, the next weekend, the next belly-laugh.
This is especially true when it comes to relationships. You expect to be heartbroken for the rest of your life. You expect a tall man with dark features is going to come sweep you off your feet. But unexpectedly you’re not heartbroken for forever, you’re content living your life by yourself.
The best things happen when you least expect it. They happen when you’re not even paying attention. Life is setting you up with every step you take and every decision you make to something amazing you have no idea about yet.
Then one day you’re up at 3 am sitting in a living room talking and listening to music and you realize this was that something you didn’t expect. That fire-lighting happiness that you forgot about. That feeling that you know you are right where you’re supposed to be.
Don’t fear the unexpected. Embrace it. Know that you have so many nights like my 3 am night awaiting you. So many moments that will make you go ‘this is why it all happened the way it did’.
