The Moments

It’s too easy to forget to be in the moment in today’s world.

With our phones always next to us, an Apple watch always on our wrist, or TV always on we disconnect with the reality we should be living. The reality not on our screens.

All too often I look back at a night and wish I could have taken it in just a little more. I wish I would have not answered texts, ignored a phone call, and just relish in the beauty of those moments.

Making an effort to be present is something I have been working on. Instead of caring who is posting snapchats or what’s going on in the group text I have been caring about the conversation I’m having with the person sitting in front of me. We all know how irritating it is when you’re mid conversation with someone and they look at their phone. And we think to ourselves “Oh I am so sorry that my conversation is unable to hold your attention.” And I never want to be that person again.

It’s not easy being present all the time but it sure does make you enjoy life a little more.

I don’t worry about what tomorrow will bring anymore because I am living in today’s moments.

I don’t replay what I said a week ago and wish I could fix it because I care about what I say today.

I dance around with my sister instead of scrolling through Facebook because I know one day sooner rather than later she will be too busy to be a kid with me.

I sit at a family party and take in everyone’s smile and laugh just so I know I will never forget the look of joy on their faces.

I lay just a little bit longer in bed on a rainy Wednesday morning cuddled in bed without saying a word because I know I will miss that moment for months to come.

One day all we are ever going to have to look back on are all these small moments. Moments where we look over and see a smile of someone you love. Moments of screaming your favorite song in the car with the windows down on a warm summer night. Moments where you hug someone and don’t want to let go. Moments of endless laughter over stupid drinking games. Moments of feeling alive.

Moments that you want to last forever.

  1. Can you please do a post about Mike? There’s a lot of us on here who are really curious about how/why that ended
